Meet Our Veterinarians and Support Staff
We’re proud to call Indianapolis home, where we welcome pets and people from Nora and many other areas to our practice. Together, our veterinarians have over 40 years of experience in the field and work closely with our small but incredibly skilled and compassionate team of technicians and assistants. At Monon Animal Hospital, we’re all passionate about helping people by caring for their pets. You can be sure that we will work to provide you and your four-legged family members with the exceptional treatment you deserve.
Dr. Ken Simpson
Dr. Simpson graduated from Purdue's School of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. He truly enjoys the unusual and challenging cases that are often seen in general practice and has a special interest in dermatology, dentistry, and pain management. He loves to educate and inform clients about how to improve the quality of their pets' lives. Dr. Simpson has practiced in the Broad Ripple/Nora area for over 20 years and enjoys the diversity found in this community.
Though a native of Florida, Dr. Simpson has a great affection for England, where his father grew up. He has on occasion returned to his ancestral roots by attending small animal continuing education courses overseas. Some of his favorite memories include a visit to the James Herriot Museum in Thirsk, England and seeing where his boyhood hero practiced.
Dr. Simpson, his wife Ellen, and their son Patrick share their home with a 3-legged Beagle named Lou (even though he hates that description!) and a 4-legged cat named Albert. When he isn't busy with his work or his family, he enjoys playing the guitar.
Dr. Sara Rueter
In 1995, Dr. Rueter graduated from the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine. She has been practicing veterinary medicine in the Indianapolis area for over 20 years and worked in Broad Ripple for close to five years. Her areas of special interest include soft tissue surgery and internal medicine cases.
Dr. Rueter’s philosophy of practicing veterinary medicine is to always be mindful that every pet is a loved member of a family, and she considers herself to be the other “family doctor.” She enjoys working with clients to develop the best possible healthcare plans for their pets.
Dr. Rueter resides on the north side of Indianapolis with her husband, Greg, (who is also a veterinarian) their three children Sam, Megan, and Ben, two cats (George and Mama Sophie), and a Golden Retriever (Josie). Outside of work, Dr. Rueter enjoys running, reading, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
Alissa joined the Monon Animal Hospital team in 2010. She attended Purdue University where she earned a degree in Wildlife Science. Having grown up in Indianapolis with lots of pets including everything from iguanas to rabbits and horses, she always knew she wanted a career involving animals. Over the years, Alissa has worked at animal shelters and several veterinary clinics, including a couple of specialty centers. Alissa enjoys working with people who care about their animals and never minds taking that extra call or answering a question if it will help ease a client's concerns. When she isn’t working, Alissa enjoys camping with her husband Jim and their rescue dogs and letting the cat guard the house.
Tiffany has been the practice manager at Monon Animal Hospital since 2015 when she and her husband moved to Indianapolis. Her interest in working with animals spawned from an early age and has since led her to a 13-year career in the veterinary field. During that time, Tiffany has had the privilege of working alongside some amazing doctors and other staff, which adds to her love for the industry. She and her husband, Cory, have 2 four-legged babies. Ginger is a Beagle/Shepherd mix, and Lita (Fat Mama) is a Maine Coon mix. When not wrangling the pets, you can be sure to find Tiffany with her nose in a book.
Brittany has been working in animal care for over 6 years. After joining the MAH team in 2015, she soon discovered that veterinary care was a perfect fit for her. Brittany's goal is to individualize the care of each patient so that they have a happy and calming visit to our clinic. She is endearingly called "the crazy Pug lady" due to her obsession with the squishy-faced dogs and love for the breed. Therefore, as you might assume at home, she has a Pug named Bigsby and a Chug (a Pug/Chihuahua mix) named Babette. When Brittany isn't helping your fur babies at MAH, you will find her painting, knitting, studying history, and checking trails off her hiking bucket list.
Lauren grew up in Indiana surrounded by horses and dogs. She graduated from the International Business College with an Associate's in Veterinary Technology in December 2009. Lauren has cared for everything from mice to horses. She currently lives in Zionsville with her dog Riata and her horse, Pistol. In her free time, Lauren likes to go camping with her beloved four-legged animals. She joined Monon Animal Hospital in November 2017.
Cassie is the smiling face that will greet you at our front desk. She is the mother of 4 beautiful children and 3 sweet furbabies. Cassie and her family love to spend their time together in the great outdoors as often as they can. She also enjoys reading, getting crafty, and of course, being around animals!

I love Monon Animal Hospital and the staff so very much. Dr. Reuter and Dr. Simpson are a great combination of knowledge, cheer, and calmness. I have a "problem child" for a dog and they have been so helpful with her anxiety and allergies. I can say that my dog loves coming to the vet to get her shots so she can see Rick and Alyssa. Highly recommend!
